Personal Background: He was born in the Marche region of Italy and raised in Milan. He grew up on a farm in central Italy and learned the most valuable lessons from his mother. He worked many years as a cook in kitchen and hotels across Europe and became a professor of culinary arts at The Culinary Institute of America. Because of his experience over many years he became a famous food photographer. Francesco is based in the New York Metro area, and has a fully equipped 3000 square feet studio in Union City, NJ, overlooking Manhattan.
Style: His pictures got a lot movement. He is capturing little details and all the colors. The pictures have mostly a special theme or a special topic of things.
Philosophy: He want to document his favorite recipe and also experience by trying and creating new meals. He is showing with his images how the meal could look like, when you used the recipe. The meals are looking interesting and delicious, because he has a eye for let them look like this.
Influences: He influenced me in how he captures the moments of his art and how he shows all these little details. I also think his pictures are looking really interesting. He has a lot experience and know how to get the perfect light for his food.
Compare and Contrast: Tonelli's images are showing Snacks like Kit Kat, Snickers and Cracker. But they were not looking like the same, when I took the pictures. For example there are little bubbles on my my Kit Kat's. The light is different too. In Tonelli's pictures are the Snacks in the center and looking beautiful, even when they are just Snacks. In the Snickers picture, you can see where I cut my Snickers and the background is different. In the picture with the Cracker I choose a grape and a Strawberry instead of a Banana and Blueberries.
Personal Artist Statement: When I choose the images to shoot, I first thought it couldn't be so difficult, because it is "only" food. But it was much harder than I thought. I bought Snickers, Kit Kat and Cracker for the project. I began to take pictures of the Snickers. It was difficult to cut the Snickers, that he would look like the Snickers on the picture. I tried 6 times to cut the Snickers perfectly without these little stripes from the knife. I also tried it with different knifes, but it didn't work. A other thing is the light. It was hard to find good light to take the picture, that it would look like the original picture. Next I took pictures of the Kit Kat. I opened the Kit Kat's and noticed they have little bubbles on the top and they got warm the last days, so you can see the little defects. The light was a big thing in the hole project. You can see the edges and the writing in the original picture because of the light. My last picture shows Cracker with toppings. I had no blueberries or bananas, so I choose a grape and a strawberry. I noticed that you can't control the form of the food. Everything looks a little bit different, even if it is the same thing.
